There are so many different ways to use green energy in your home that you’ll be shocked by how simple and cost-effective it can be. The intent of this article is to provide you with different methods to use green energy at home and benefit from it.
Do your best to keep your windows shaded from any sunlight. Use curtains or blinds as an alternative. Doing both these things will decrease your usage of the air conditioning during the summer because your house will be cooler. You will save energy and money.
Device Chargers
Consume energy more wisely by unplugging your device chargers when they are not in use. Mp3, cell phone, laptop, and various other device chargers draw power when they’re plugged in, no matter if it’s charging or not.
When not at home, use window coverings. These help your home remain cool and keep your energy bill down when you are not there. Typically windows on the southern side of the home receive the most sun. Try to cover the windows using coverings like roman shades, roller shades, and dark curtains.
Turn off appliances you aren’t using. When you leave any room, turn off lights, tvs, computers or any other electrical devices. A power strip is an easy way to turn off multiple appliances at once, so consider placing one in a conspicuous place where many electronics are located.
Use a model which is tankless and more green instead of a tank style heater. Tankless water heaters still use electricity or gas, but they do not run constantly heating a large tank all the time. They heat only the water you need. There are tankless heaters that can supply just one single faucet with water that is hot, but there are also models which supply the whole home.
One very easy way to save money on your heating bills is to dress more warmly around the house during the winter months. 2 degrees of warmth is added by wearing a light sweater, and 4 degrees with a heavy one. Since it is pointless to wear very little clothing while indoors, you might as well wear a sweater.
All the things we went over throughout this article are easy to implement, so don’t let excuses keep you from using them where you live. Greening your home will save you money, help the environment and bring you some peace of mind!
